First of all I want to say that it is very difficult to know what to believe when conducting research because everyone has an opinion and they tend to conflict while making sense in their own regard. The media puts out what they want us to know and conceals what they don’t, it is what it is. So for this reason I am sure to not only conduct my own research but test my research for real life results.

When it comes to dairy a lot of facts have been scientifically proven but because of the media coverage it gets we blindly consume dairy products with no regard to the facts of the actual affects it has on our bodies.

Walter Willet, M.D., Ph.D , the second-most-cited scientist in all of clinical medicine and the head of nutrition at Harvard’s School of Public Health, has conducted studies that provides several reasons not to consume dairy:

  • Milk actually depletes the calcium in our bones.

Countries with the lowest rates of dairy and calcium consumption (like those in Africa and Asia) have the lowest rates of osteoporosis.

  • Dairy is linked to prostate and other cancer

one of the many hormones added to milk is IGF-1, an insulin like growth factor, acts as a accelerator for any cancer

  • It is full of saturated fat and is linked to heart disease
  • 75% of the population are lactose intolerant

According to the Huffington post Some of the “experts” who helped create the food pyramid actually work for the dairy industry, which makes the US Department of agriculture’s recommendations reflect industry interests, not science or our best interests.

Most cow’s milk has measurable quantities of herbicides, pesticides, dioxins (up to 200 times the safe levels), up to 52 powerful antibiotics (perhaps 53, with LS-50), blood, pus, feces, bacteria and viruses. (Cow’s milk can have traces of anything the cow ate, including such things as radioactive fallout from nuke testing (the 50’s strontium-90 problem).

Calcium is what I was always told I need and it comes from milk, I mean look at the big bones on those cows, right? Yes that is right, cows consume a lot of calcium from PLANTS which has a large amount of magnesium which is necessary for the body to absorb and actually utilize calcium! So the calcium we are getting from this milk we “need” is not actually benefiting us and  all of the other ingredients milk contains actually has a negative effect on our bodies.

So back to what I said in the beginning of this post, it is hard to know who to trust so I like do my own research and then make my final decision. I sing and it use to be difficult for me to consistently hit certain notes. One day I was singing with a friend of mine that is a producer and he said I should stop drinking milk/consuming dairy. Now at that time I was like Yeah Right! I love cheese! Pizza, cereal, cheese sticks… ohh the list goes on; but then I stated eating clean so I started doing research. I slowed down on dairy and it took me stopping for a full week to really notice the difference and I definitely noticed a difference. That mucus build up I was always dealing with, that I didn’t even notice anymore because it was always there, actually went away. I was able to sing better than I ever could and my digestive system actually started agreeing with me, 2 red flags for me to know that dairy was actually having a negative effect on my body.

I have been drinking almond milk instead but I am still trying to find the healthiest alternative. I do know that almond milk is a way better option than cow’s milk, I am just starting to find that it does not actually have that much to offer naturally after the almonds are strained and mixed with water. I will do some more research and test it out and get back to you all with the research and my real life experiences.

At the end of the day we all have to do what we feel is best for us. I cannot justify indulging in dairy the way I use to because of the research I have done and the effects I have encountered, but like I said I am not perfect and I am still in love with cherry cheesecake. I love the taste of dairy products like most people so every once in a while I will have a piece of cheese cake, a cup of coffee and baileys, or a piece of pizza; although it is very seldom and I do try to find a dairy free option, I do do it.I have listed my sources below so you all can do YOUR OWN research and do what you feel is best for YOU!
