I started eating clean a little over a year ago and it was not because I wanted to lose weight, but because I wanted to feel better…happier. I noticed that I was consistently tired throughout the day. One day I read an article saying that we should’t eat right before we go to bed because our bodies are working so hard to break down the food we consumed that we aren’t able to get the rest we need. So I stopped eating past a certain time (depending on what time I was going to bed) and I really felt the difference. This made me want to continue on the path of treating my body better so I not only changed when I ate but what I ate. I watched documentaries on GMO’s and did research on which foods did what for your body. I have not eaten McDonalds, Wendy’s, or Burger king since;the only fast food I do eat about once every 2 months is Chick Fil A. I shop at the farmers market or the organic section in Kroger to get fresh fruits and vegetables and wild caught fish. I have not purchased chicken or turkey meat for about 3 months now, however, I did just visit Puerto Rico where I thoroughly enjoyed some papas con pollo supremo!!! As I said, my main influence to eat clean was not to lose weight, it was to live a happier life in general. I feel so good after I eat something that is good for my body. I don’t get that sluggish feeling after I eat, or a little nauseous, or guilty. The most important thing about my eating habits to me is that I do not restrict myself of anything. If I want to eat some loaded chicken fries I do so and if I want to eat some chocolate I eat come chocolate. Those things are not a part of my normal eating habits but I do enjoy them from time to time and I do not hold an ounce of guilt for that. I am not a robot, I am human.
